Brittany Morris, gives us her final recommendation on the perks of each coney and ultimately her favorite coney dog.
My recommendation for the loose burger goes as such, I liked the chilli from American coney island better and the bun seemed bigger, but they gave you more loose burger on the bun at Lafayette and it was juicier. So my choice is also Lafayette Coney Island. The coney island with ancient cash registers, 1950 stools and a diner personality you can’t buy.
Now for anyone that has come in contact with me, you know that food is near the top of my LOVE list. Now being a Detroit native, I have had several experiences at the thousands of Coney Islands in and around the city of Detroit. But after recently relocating my career to downtown Detroit, I HAD to try two of the original Coney Islands, in downtown Detroit. Yes, we have arrived at Lafayette Coney Island and American Coney Island, neighboring restaurants once owned by brothers and operating since 1917. Since I don’t eat hot dogs, my menu item of choice was a loose burger and I brought along my eating partner in crime Brittany for the coneys. Last week we tried the Lafayette Coney Island and today we tried the American Coney Island.
